friday favorite woman-owned biz: calluna events

In the world of woman-owned businesses, it’s rare for a fierce entrepreneur to also act as a hub for everyone and everything cool in about a million-mile radius.

As will surprise nobody who knows her, Heather Clark of Calluna Events does just that.  Not only does Heather conceive of and design incredible parties, weddings, anc corporate events, but she connects people with vendors, resources, and each other to create a truly noteworthy experience.

I first met Heather through we2e, a women’s networking group for female entrepreneurs founded by Heather herself.  In a smart move, she decided to up the ante and capitalize on her great social networks to bring together women who have something major in common.  In the years since I’ve met her, I’ve found Heather to be a complex personality and a class act.  When we eventually get around to our ribbon-cutting/very belated grand opening, Calluna will most definitely be the company we turn to.  Meanwhile, feel free to contact her if you need a classy, cutting-edge, or just plain fun celebration!

We came, we saw, we schmoozed

Boulder is a pretty gorgeous place, but one of its treasures is the swanky St. Julien Hotel, which combines a metropolitan vibe with an amazing view of the Flatirons. The Voco crew got to enjoy that view — and amazing interactions with local women — at today’s NewYou Expo presented by we2e.

you by crocsWe were lucky enough to help plan the Expo along with a gang of inspired female entrepreneurs.  The event was all about transformation (Voco participated in whole-life makeovers for some of the lucky winners) and empowerment.  We contributed to the mix by handling registration (thanks, Heather, for lending us your amazing interns!) and presenting a standing-room-only presentation called Branding Boot Camp.

Armed with some fabulous shoes by You By Crocs (Erin chose the fuschia ones you see on the right), a list of fearless questions, and a wealth of information about branding and marketing, we helped 40 plus women start to understand what goes into a personal brand.  It was great to interact with the participants, answer their questions, hear about who and what inspires them, and see them well on their way to creating a signature style.

Add to that a gala celebration, gourmet tater tots, the presence of other female business owners and a fabulous wrap-up/rap session at Pasta Jay’s, and it was a Sunday well-spent.

we’re back…

New name, new look. Same killer skills.

Speaking of new looks, consider spending your upcoming Sunday with Voco Creative and the women of we2e at the NewYou 2008 Expo at the St. Julien Hotel in Boulder. We’ll be joining other female entrepreneurs for a day of networking, learning, and close encounters with experts in the areas of relationships, wealth, beauty, wellness, and environment. Better yet, the event benefits the Boulder YWCA and will feature the unveiling of ten whole-life makeovers donated by the women of we2e!

Still on the fence? In addition to goodie bags with freebies like microdermabrasion and CDs and an amazing keynote by Gina Schreck, you’ll be able to check out yours truly at Branding Boot Camp from 2:30 to 3:30!

We’ll see you there…and we’ll see you much more often on our new home on the Web!
